About

I guess every introductions starts with a name. Hello, I'm Sarah.

I grew up in between the modern and historic Kuala Lumpur and currently residing in Melbourne, Australia.

I began baking at wee age of my childhood, it was a favorite pastime. It started as a yearly bake for Eid with my aunts, and usually I have to pester her so we can bake before schedule. Growing up, during my free time, I would try different recipes, and offer to bake for friends and family's birthdays/special occasions.  Over time, by high demand, too much free bakes had been going around, I then started charging for my orders (I was starting to run low on cash, haha). From that I created Thunderberry (circa 2011), which was a randomly put name, and I just opened a new user on instagram, and words got around.

As I go, upon opportunities I refined my skills, and ventured into different aspects of baking from assisting to teaching, to working in a restaurant). I seek knowledge from a famous caketress in Kuala Lumpur, starting from assisting her, to teaching in her class, to baking peers. But to me, she will always be my mentor.  I love experimenting on new projects and flavors; trying new recipes. Not all of them are successful, but eventually, with many attempts, adjustment and adaptation I made it work. Many said I had the flair for it, perhaps. But perhaps, its just passion and aspiring to achieve the impossible.

I indulge myself in books, youtube videos, following progress of bakers around the world, and not limiting the scope just there. I work for experience, for the fun of it. It teaches me that even with minimal pay, if you do what you love, you'll always enjoy what you do. From work, it unlocks more doors for me to explore. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, I guess that goes without saying, and and usually if I'm not, I'm out adventuring the great outdoors. Still trying to balance both of my favorites in my life.

I seek inspiration from the most peculiar things, and find time to materialize my thoughts. I always prefer to be alone in the kitchen past bedtime, when the world is asleep. Those are the time I get to create. My mother is an adult educator, and I grew up believing that you never stop education, no matter how much years passed. This is a portion of the journey in my adult education, through my kitchen.
